Sometimes it is useful to pre-process a log in the sense that process instances exhibiting the same event sequence are aggregated in one instance indicating their number of occurrences using the “numSimilarInstances” attribute within the Data section of the ProcessInstance tag.

This aggregation can be achieved using a dedicated export plug-in available in ProM. Simply choose Exports → [log] → Grouped MXML log (same sequences) from the menu, and save and open the grouped log file.
